I can relate to Jasmine Guy's Southern axe-ee-unt, who's best known as playing Whitley on A Different World.
Before J-Lo (UGH) doing the actress-turned-singer BS, Jasmine recorded a solo album around the time Paula Abdul and Janet Jackson's 1814 were hot. In a lot of ways, her music sounds exactly like a clone of those two, but surprisingly is a competent singer and it's as if her Southern accent doesn't exist.
To my knowledge, this is the only LP Jasmine ever released and I wouldn't classify it as a "novelty album". Of the 10ish cuts from her self-titled album, three of them are decent and still worth playing.
A little "90's dated" sounding - but as if I'd give recent sheeit like Bieber, Katy Perry and Ke$hsa the time of day. Fuck that, their "music" AND them.
Here's two from Jasmine Guy that I'd edited together back to back:
"TRY ME" +
"DON'T WANT MONEY"
from JASMINE GUY (1990)
