KISS - Brazil 1983. The last handful of concerts in makeup. One word for it: "LOUD!!". They had their best drummer, Eric Carr. Vinnie Vincent made some of their original songs his own, even improved on a couple of Ace's original guitar solo's. I remember first seeing a clip of this concert and saying "WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO ACE?!?". I knew Vinnie played guitar on their Lick It Up album but had no idea he wore makeup too. I guess because the tour in America was so badly received, there wasn't much publicity of the 1982-83 lineup without Ace. By default, Vinnie's my Guitar Hero #2. My second electric guitar was shaped like his except it was black - and very uncomfortable to play sitting down.
Regardless if you like him or not, at least Vinnie saved and reinvented the group not once, but twice. First in 1982-83, and again in the early 90's on their Revenge album, after Eric Carr passed away from cancer that claimed his life pretty much overnight. If Eric survived that and was re-hired to drum with KISS in their current lineup, would they make him wear the Peter Criss cat makeup, as his replacement, Eric Singer, is wearing right now - or would they have him back in his fox makeup?
