If I had a kid and something like this happened, WWJD? What Would Jabba Do? Even if I was a parent, daycares are totally out of the question. I didn't like that shit and wouldn't put no kid through that.
I still say everyone around age 13 should take a mental exam to find out if they're competent enough to actually be parents. In my world, if they failed, they'd be castrated on the spot. It would spare a lot of kids a lot of torture, abuse and death.
