I hadn't played the first MMPR game since before the movie came out in 1995 (along with the coinciding MMPR: The Movie game for Super NES). Both games are pretty much identical - side scrolling, fighting Rita/Zedd's Putties, and an end-level boss, one of the "monsters" from the TV show.
The first level boss is Rita/Finster's skeleton monster cleverly named "Bones".
