This was one of my favorite Kingdom Hearts II wins, after less than five losses the first few tries against Sephiroth.
The key to defeating him is two main things: be fully equipped with Elixir's - you'll need em! And also be quick to hit your green triangle button when Sephiroth dashes at you - if you don't, he'll slash off every hit point but one and you'll have to immediately use an Elixir right then and there or else you're toast when he slashes off that last life point.
This is one battle where you have to be on your toes from the moment the battle begins. Watch and learn ;)
