1984 VINYL 12" SINGLE RECORDING: VANITY + KOOL & THE GANG

After Vanity 6, the first girl group created by Prince, Vanity signed with Motown Records, and high as a kite, released a couple solo LP's with them.  Her most memorable single and video was "Pretty Mess" - you know, the one where she's acting a hoochie mama in a big glass of champagne.  I love Vanity, but she was more style over substance - and same with her replacement in the Prince camp, Apollonia - but credit where credit's due, Apollonia obviously had some vocal training before her first and only solo album in the late 80's.  I think Vanity's vocals were much better in Vanity 6, before she was all into cocaine.

Now Vanity is known as the "Reverend Denise Matthews".
