She's been gone for a little over a year now but Teena Marie's music will continue to live. I don't know if it was all that necessary when Motown kept her image off her very first LP from 1979 in an attempt to hide the fact she wasn't a black artist. And she probably fooled most people until her first TV appearances.
And too bad her first Motown LP quickly went out of print when that Hippo reissued it on CD for the first time a few years ago. I'd actually bought the last copy of that limited edition (I think 5,000 copies) CD that our local place, Forever Young Records had in stock.
