The Klymaxx edition of the music documentary show Unsung played a little of their demo before being signed onto Solar Records and they sound as good, if not better, as on their first LP from 1981.  "Raw" was the right description of their sound, like they were still rehearsing in a garage and don't sound polished like in the studio with a producer.  The few demo's I've heard of groups before they were signed, like KISS and Culture Club, sounded even better than their first albums.

I'll probably have to do some hunting to find a copy but what little of their demo shown from Unsung sounded right up my alley.  Their first two LP's on Solar were great because they all played their instruments - after that on another label, they got lazy and let the electronic stuff handle most of the playing:
