LIVE ARCADE GAMING: I EFFING LOVE 'PIGOUT'!!

It's very rare I find a game as addictive as something like Q*Bert, Super Mario 3 or Marvel VS. Capcom - but thanks to MAME arcade emulator, a few years ago I "discovered" an obscure up-to-3-player arcade game by Leland called "Pigout", from 1990.  I'd never seen it in the local arcade in the 90's, but the cabinet looked as big as the 4-player X-Men arcade game.

How can I describe Pigout other than:  you're a pig who just escaped from Al's Butcher Shop.  I was ALREADY hooked, just from that little introduction!  You basically PIG OUT, grab all the food on the screen but most importantly, the bottles of jam, labeled 1-5 (depending on which last one you picked up).  Collect all 5 to advance to the next unique screen (circus, library, Italian restaurant, firehouse, etc.).

Your enemies are Al the Butcher - who beats you upside the head with a mallet, bags you up and stamps you "GRADE A" when he catches up with you.  The wolves will just eat you alive, squealing like a piggie.  Other bad guys like the 5-0 appears in random stages, and he'll clobber you upside the head with his night stick if he catches up with you.  JUST like Garcia from Reno 911!

Eating/drinking certain items will also make your pig do a bodily function, pausing for a couple seconds, ALSO leaving you open to being caught.  The chilli dog makes the pig burp and pause for about 2-3 seconds, a frosty mug of beer makes you buzzed temporarily, and just some other reactions are too hysterical for words when you eat certain items - and sometimes it's a random item.  After finishing about 4-5 screens, there's a bonus screen involving a donut shop - and you guessed it - fat ol' cops.  And they just sit there, facing the other way, while you bounce around behind their big asses, stealing all their donuts!  FUN!!!

If you have the free MAME emulator, I highly recommend finding the Pigout rom if you don't have it already.  I prefer the "alternate" version of Pigout's rom, bringing out some of the special effect sounds a little better in your speakers.

A shame this one pretty much went under the radar with gamer's, they missed out on a fun cult classic (by MY standards, anyway - and you know me - the more over-the-top, the BETTER!!)

DINE LIKE A SWINE!!!!
